Happy National Brownie Day. In honor, here’s mom’s secret, short-cut recipe for…

SHINY TOP BROWNIES
By Gloria Pitzer, as seen in… Gloria Pitzer’s Mostly 4-Ingredient Recipes (Secret RecipesTM, St. Clair, MI; April 1986, p. 54).
INGREDIENTS:
8-oz box Baker’s semi-sweet chocolate
4 eggs
1 1/3 cups powdered sugar
1 1/3 cups Bisquick
[1 cup broken walnuts – optional*]
INSTRUCTIONS:
Grease bottom ONLY of 9×12-inch baking pan. Melt chocolate over hot water [in double boiler]. Allow to cool while you put the eggs in a small, deep and narrow mixing bowl. Beat on high speed of mixer for 3 minutes. (Set a timer!)
Add powdered sugar and beat another 3 minutes – again, being sure not to begrudge one single minute of this beating time. Add warm, melted chocolate, beating only until thoroughly blended. Dump in Bisquick, all at once, and beat just until smooth.
Spread batter evenly over bottom of prepared pan. Bake at 325°F [for] 30 to 35 minutes or until [wooden] toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cut [3×8] into 24 [3-inch] squares.
[*]Optional: …walnuts may be added to the batter [before baking].
