PET COOKIES, HOMEMADE
By Gloria Pitzer, as seen in… The Original 200 Plus Secret Recipes© Book (Secret RecipesTM, Marysville, MI; June 1997, p. 44)
INGREDIENTS:
[about 1/2 cup] ice water
2 cups cut-up, leftover, cooked chicken
2 jars strained beef baby food
1½ cups wheatgerm
INSTRUCTIONS:
Put chicken through blender to a puree, with enough water to cover the blades so mixture won’t clog it up. Transfer to a bowl. Stir in baby food and wheatgerm. Mix to blend so that it can be formed into 1” balls. Check for any bones that may have escaped you in cutting up the chicken.
Arrange balls on lightly greased baking sheet. Press down flat with fork dipped first in ice water. Sprinkle a bit more wheatgerm over cookies. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Remove to cool on countertop. Store at least 3-4 weeks, in refrigerator, in covered container.
Makes about 300 little treats for your family pet. Use like you would a Milkbone Dog Biscuit, as a reward rather than a meal!
