BIG VOID CHEESE SOUP (like Big Boy’s)
By Gloria Pitzer, as seen in… The Joy Of NOT Cooking – Any More Than You Have To (Secret RecipesTM, St. Clair, MI; Nov. 1983, p. 71).
If you like the cheese soup served at Big Boy Restaurants, you might like this version, which is reminiscent of theirs.*
INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup milk
10-oz can cream of celery soup [condensed]
10-oz can cream of mushroom soup [condensed]
8-oz jar Cheese Whiz
1 TB dry, minced onion
1 tsp prepared mustard
1 slice (4×4-inch) boiled ham, scissor-snipped into tiny bits
1½-tsp sugar (or artificial sweetener equal to that)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place it all [as listed] in top of double boiler, over simmering water, stirring until smooth. Serve, piping hot, for 4 – maybe 5 people.
*While the original soup contains some carrots, I omitted it from my version [above], but you may drain an 8-oz can of sliced carrots [diced fine] and stir that also into the soup mixture, if you wish.
