Happy September! Crafting talents run in my family. In honor of it, being National Sewing Month, here are some great sewing ideas from my grandma, as Mom wrote about them, almost 40 years ago, in her Secret Recipes Newsletter…

Esther Carter’s Crafts
By Gloria Pitzer, as seen in her self-published newsletter… Gloria Pitzer’s Secret Recipes Newsletter (Secret RecipesTM, St. Clair, MI; May-June 1986, p. 10).
WHEN DEBBIE brought Samantha over the other day, wearing a darling terry cloth bib that snapped in the back, I couldn’t believe that my mother had made it and I didn’t even know about it!
Samantha was teething and the bib was just perfect for her – soft but ample in size and the snap in the back wasn’t one of those… Gripper Snaps that pull out of the fabric so easily… [Made] in… yellow, pink, blue, green – even white with contrasting trim.

Her new half aprons are adorable… in cheerful prints [and] assorted colors, as you wish. But best of all are her totes. The tote bags are just great for baby bags or [for] knitting or shopping or the beach – with appliques of contrasting colors – [in] red, blue, green, brown, beige.
[NOTE: I could not find any detailed instructions or patterns for these crafts but they’re great ideas to run with, if you’re of the creative sort. As always, I’m asking only for proper credit if you care to re-share this.]
