In honor of TODAY, being National Sandwich Day, here’s Mom’s copycat recipe of “Chop & Drop Secret Sauce” for sandwiches (or salads)…

CHOP AND DROP SECRET SAUCE
By Gloria Pitzer, as seen in… Gloria Pitzer’s Cookbook – Best Of The Recipe Detective (Balboa Press; Jan. 2018, p. 28). [A revised reprint of Gloria Pitzer’s Better Cookery Cookbook (Secret RecipesTM, St. Clair, MI; May 1983, 3rd Edition).]
CROCK & BLOCK – CANADIAN RESTAURANTS – These are the most unique of the family food restaurants – based in Toronto [around 30 units in 1983.] The decor was turn-of-the-century English, with a soft motif and restful atmosphere. The wonderful sauce they served with their sandwiches on their luncheon menu was spicy and semi-sweet but unusual… A challenge to be sure!
INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup each: Miracle Whip and orange marmalade
2/3 cup Catalina dressing
1 tablespoon each: dry, minced onions and Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon onion salt
1/16 teaspoon pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine all ingredients, whipping it vigorously with a sturdy spoon. Makes about 1½ cups of sauce. Keep tightly covered in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks. Use as a sandwich sauce or salad dressing.
