BEEF FEEDER STYLE RYE ROLLS (like Sign of the Beefcarver’s)

By Gloria Pitzer, as seen in… Eating Out at Home (National Home News, St. Clair, MI; September 1978, p. 22)

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups white flour

2 cups rye flour

6 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

3 TB shortening

1 ½ cups milk

INSTRUCTIONS:

Mix [flours] together. Add… baking powder and… salt. Sift all together then rub in… shortening. Moisten with… milk and turn out on a floured board. Knead lightly and make into rolls. Arrange close together, in greased pans. Let stand 15 minutes, then bake in a hot oven [at 375°F for about 20 minutes (or at 350°F for 30 minutes), until golden brown].
