CHAIN STITCH (Ch)
Make a slip knot on the hook, held in the right hand. Thread yarn over left ring finger, under middle [finger], and over index finger, holding short end between the thumb and middle finger.
Pass hook under and over yarn and draw it through the loop on the hook. [That’s one chain.] Repeat for as many stitches as the directions specify.
Insert hook into second stitch from hook under the two upper strands [see illustration].
SINGLE CROCHET (SC)
Pass hook under and over yarn and draw it through the stitch.
Pass hook under and over yarn, again, and draw it through the two loops on the hook.
½-DOUBLE CROCHET (1/2-DC)
Pass hook under and over yarn, inserting hook into third stitch from hook, and under the two upper strands.
Pass hook under and over yarn and draw it through the three loops on the hook.
DOUBLE CROCHET (DC)
Pass hook under and over yarn, inserting hook into the fourth stitch from hook, under the two upper strands.
Pass hook under and over yarn and draw it through the stitch then pass hook under and over the yarn again. Draw yarn through the first two loops on the hook. Pass hook under and over yarn again and draw it through remaining two loops on the hook.
